Objective
To examine and understand the packaging design of a product so that I could then re-design the packaging into a new and improved layout and branding.
Process
I chose to redesign the packaging for the Autosoft 90 Infusion set from the Tandem Diabetes Care Company. I chose to redesign this package as the current design is in need of a dire upgrade for both users and investors. The current design uses a simple box layout which does not have structural security and often results in the collapse of the box and a lack of safety for its contents. In addition to this, it also sports a dull text-filled box with no design appeal.
My first task was to redesign the dieline of the box to allow for better structural integrity and to make a safety space for the sensitive medical equipment. I then further designed the box to include colours and imagery associated with both it’s contents and to better highlight important aspects of its usage. The ever-important instructional and legal text is still found neatly organized on the exterior of the package while also showing off the different contents with their assigned colours. This project comes from a place of passion and shows the different possibilities when it comes to improving on old designs.
This was a collaborative project involving myself and 2 other designers.
Medium/Tools Used
This project was created mainly in Adobe Illustrator to help with future sizing requirements and to meet exact specifications relating to it’s contents. The final product follows the same dimensions as the currently used box but with improved visuals and branding.
